  2004 World University Taekwondo Championship ~ Greece
  PRESS RELEASE.......
  
  The Canadian University Taekwondo Team will be competing at the World University Taekwondo
  Championships in Patras, Greece from June 2nd - 5th, 2004.
  
  The twenty member team is comprised of athletes, coaches and support team from various cities in Canada.

  Taekwondo Canadian Junior Nationals ~ Dartmouth Nova Scotia http://prodium.com/tournois/halifax_black04/info.htm Our local school, Island Taekwondo Academy was pleased to have 2 students as well as owner Tom Girardin in attendance. This was the first national level competition for both black belt Alex Trithardt and colour belt Rachel Aucoin.  The competition was tough, but Rachel proudly brought home silver in forms and a bronze in sparring. Both students drew the names of strong, seasoned, opposing competitors for their fights, so it made for a positive learning experience regardless of the outcome. Mr. Girardin had the distinction of refereeing at the Canadian Nationals at Royal Military College in Kingston Ont., earlier in April and the pleasure of returning to work with his former club, Whites TKD who hosted the Jr National event. Referring at the junior level is just as intense as the senior because these kids are awesome athletes and are the ones who will represent Canada in the future at Olympics. Winners in several black belt divisions will compete next month in Korea at the World Juniors. For more information on Olympic style Taekwondo training contact Island Taekwondo Academy at 334-0562

  Fundraising
  Students, instructors and friends of Sirota's Alchymy raised $9,000 during the Kickathon and Breakathon held in March. The amount of $8,000 was presented to Gaden Relief - Gaywa Project; a Tibetan aide organization working with the elderly in Tibet. The Richmond Food Bank received a cheque in the amount of $1,000 for the purchase of food items. A huge thank you to all who made a difference.  
  Regional High Performance Taekwondo Training
  Currently providing scholarships for elite-level (minimum rank is red belt) athletes from British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. Application forms and complete information can be obtained from either Michael Sirota or Master Leon Preston.
  2003 Summer Universiade
  The Universiade is a multi-sport worldwide sporting event for University/College students. The Universiade is the second biggest sporting event in the World. This year, an estimated 10,000 participants from over 150 countries will meet in Daegu, Korea. Taekwondo is one of fourteen sports in the Games. Master Michael Sirota is honoured to be the Team Leader for the Canadian Taekwondo University Team competing in Korea this August.
